Moon and planets - interesting alignments

We would like to encourage everybody to experiment with an amateur photography! The Stellarium software and lots of pages like may help to predict interesting alignments of planets. See also our page about sunspots. The pictures in this page were taken with Panasonic DMC-FZ45 camera, mounted on a simple tripod.

Jupiter, Moon and Venus

In the first picture you can see Jupiter (top of the picture), Moon (in the middle) and Venus (the lowes white spot). The image was taken on th 28.01.2012. The camera parameters were: FNumber 2.8, ISO400 i exposure time 2 s. Image-stacking method was used to reduce noise which appeared due to a relatively long exposure time and ISO400 setting.

Jupiter and Venus are visible even on a relatively bright sky – here above the Faculty of Chemistry of the Jagiellonian University:

In the first half of March 2012 the Jupiter and Venus were quite close on the sky. Expecting cloudy weather I took a few photos before the exact day (12th of March) of conjunction and then a few days later when the sky was clear.
